We hear this question often—“Is Lake Vermilion safe to swim in?” The answer is yes, absolutely! Lake Vermilion is a clean and swimmable lake in Northern Minnesota. Families have been swimming, splashing, and playing here for generations, and it’s one of the highlights of staying at White Eagle Resort.
When Do People Swim in Lake Vermilion?
Because we’re up north, the swimming season is a little shorter than lakes further south. Here at White Eagle Resort, most of our guests start getting into the water mid-June once the weather warms up. The lake is at its best for swimming in July and August, when afternoons at the dock and evenings of “one last swim before dinner” are the rhythm of summer.
By September, the water starts to cool again. Some adventurous guests still take a dip, but most are back to cozy sweatshirts around the fire, enjoying the view of the lake instead.
Fun at the White Eagle Beach
Our beach is more than just a swimming spot—it’s an adventure zone for kids (and adults, too). Guests can enjoy:
- A giant water trampoline
- Kids kayaks and stand-up paddleboards
- Canoes, kayaks and tubes
- A water slide and floating water jungle gym
- Plenty of sand toys for building castles and creations on shore
There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the lake, whether you’re in the water, floating on top of it, or digging your toes into the sand.
Why We Love Swimming Here
There’s something timeless about Lake Vermilion. Cannonballs off the dock, kids giggling on the beach, adults floating lazily in the sunshine—it’s the kind of summer magic that sticks with you forever.
