The trail head for bear paw path is located between cabins Timber jay and Night Hawk.
One of our favorite hiking destinations on Lake Vermilion is the black bay peninsula trail. This 2 mile interpretive trail as well as six mile advanced trail takes hikers on a scenic tour of black bay peninsula. Along the way, hikers can enjoy beautiful views of the water and surrounding forests, beaver ponds, as well as the opportunity to see wildlife such as deer and bald eagles. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy before or after the hike at the lakeside picnic tables.
Another great hiking or biking option near Lake Vermilion is the Mesabi Trail. This 132-mile trail runs from Grand Rapids to Ely, passing through a variety of beautiful natural landscapes along the way. For hikers staying at Lake Vermilion, the trail can be accessed at a number of points, offering the opportunity to explore different sections of the trail depending on your interests and ability level.
For those looking for a more challenging hike, the Vermilion Gorge Trail offers a strenuous 3.4-mile trek through some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain in the area. The trail winds through the Vermilion River Gorge, offering stunning views of the river and its many waterfalls. Use caution when hiking this trial with pets and children as there are no guard rails along the edges of the Gorge.
